Sports Betting! Is There a Guaranteed Win?

If you’ve landed on this blog, you’re probably wondering whether guaranteed wins in sports betting actually exist.

Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to clear up in this article. We’ll look at whether a guaranteed win is really possible and whether a bet can ever be considered safe enough to deserve that name.

How Most Bettors Look for a Win?

When we start putting together a betting slip, most of us begin by looking at the matches we feel most confident about. In football, that usually means games involving the biggest and strongest clubs. We’re talking about leagues such as the English Premier League, Ligue 1 in France, the Bundesliga in Germany, Serie A in Italy, La Liga in Spain, the Eredivisie in the Netherlands, and others.

Next, we put together a betting slip with several selections, often more than four. We then combine different types of bets, such as a home or away win, over or under a certain number of goals, both teams to score, and similar markets.

Of course, we also look at previous results, each team’s position in the league table, whether they need a win, whether they’re playing at home or away, and so on.

We’re trying to put together a betting slip that makes us think, “This is a guaranteed win!” At least, that’s how it looks to us at that particular moment.

After all, every selection seems realistic enough to happen, and there’s nothing wrong with that in itself. We can all agree on that.

Where Does the First Problem Arise?

The first problem comes down to the number of selections on your betting slip! Yes, believe me, this is the first and biggest problem.

There’s a big difference between betting on 2–4 matches and putting together a slip with 8 or more selections. Every additional match brings more risk! It doesn’t matter whether the odds are 1.28 or 1.80 either one can ruin your entire bet.

Personally, I’ve had bets ruined by odds as low as 1.11! I was furious at the time! But here’s the thing: when I put that bet together, I considered that particular match one of the safest picks on the slip. I only added it to round up the total odds to a number I wanted to reach.

Of course, that decision ended up costing me the entire bet!

Even from this example alone, you can probably see where we’re going with this. But let’s keep going…

The Second Problem, Betting on Favorites!

The second problem is betting exclusively on favorites!

If you always rely on favorites to win or dominate their opponents, there’s a good chance that at least one of them will have a poor performance that day or during that week.

A match can easily end goalless when you’ve bet on a win. It can also finish 1–1, 2–2, or with a similar result that ruins your bet.

There are also theories about matches being fixed. I can’t say that it has never happened. It probably has, but I don’t have any personal evidence to prove it.

Sometimes, you need to stay away from favorites altogether and simply skip the match! This is especially true when it comes to a football match between the team at the top of the table and the team at the bottom.

In these situations, the odds on the favorite to win are often very low, and betting on goals doesn’t necessarily offer much better odds either.

What I’m trying to explain is that the potential profit is relatively small, but the risk is still there. No matter what your brain tells you (Come on, this one is a sure thing!) it’s not. There is no such thing as a sure bet!

Lower Odds Don't Mean a Higher Chance of Winning!

When you see low odds, your brain immediately starts telling you, (Oh, this one is safe). The odds are low, so it should be an easy win!” This is especially true for people who have been betting for years.

But here’s where the problem starts. When you’re working with low odds and want to reach total odds of 4.00, 5.00, or even higher, you need to add more selections to your betting slip. And that brings us straight back to the first problem I mentioned,  (the number of selections!)

Adding too many matches can easily lead to a losing bet. All it takes is for one selection to fail, and your entire betting slip is gone.

Football is unpredictable. A team can simply have a bad day and play poorly. Their best player might get injured, or a player might commit a foul and receive a red card early in the match, leaving the team with ten men for almost the entire game.

And in the worst-case scenario, the opposition gets a PENALTY! So now, not only are they a player down, but they could also concede a goal from the penalty spot.

These things happen in real football, believe me! I’ve lost plenty of bets because of situations exactly like these.

So, What's the Solution to Getting a Guaranteed Win?

I’m afraid I have to disappoint you! No matter how SAFE a particular pick or football match may look, believe me, something can always go wrong!

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GUARANTEED WIN!

If you ask me personally, the best way to reduce risk and improve your chances of winning is to keep your betting slip to one or two selections, with three at most!

Of course, the total odds will also be lower, often a little above 2.00 or, at most, around 3.00. I’m talking about bets such as a home or away win, or over/under goals not half-time/full-time bets or similar markets where the odds can be much higher.

These kinds of betting slips might seem boring, and the potential winnings aren’t huge. But they can be a more cautious approach to betting.

Just remember: lower risk doesn’t mean guaranteed winnings!

My Most Recent Personal Example!

Let me give you a real example from my own experience. Five days ago, on November 10, 2026, FC Marítimo played against FC Porto!

Marítimo were sitting in 11th place in the league table, while Porto were at the top. I was following the match and watching the live betting odds when the home team took a 1–0 lead in the 16th minute.

I kept watching and noticed that Porto were constantly attacking and putting pressure on their opponents, but they just couldn’t find the net. I checked the league table, confirmed that Porto were top, and looked at the possession statistics and time spent attacking. It was around the 25th minute when I decided to place my bet.

The odds for Porto to win were 2.05, and I placed a $150 bet on them. The odds were that high because Porto were losing at the time.

I knew Porto needed to score at least twice for my bet to win. I had only one selection on my betting slip, and everything depended on that single match.

In the 42nd minute, Porto finally scored to make it 1–1!

At that point, I felt much more relaxed. I expected Porto to put even more pressure on Marítimo in the second half and score at least one more goal, possibly two. I was expecting a final score of 1–3.

Porto continued to attack, but the goal just wouldn’t come. Then the 84th minute arrived, and Porto finally scored again to make it 1–2!

But just as I was starting to celebrate, the goal was sent to VAR for a possible offside!

Luckily for me, the goal stood, and the score officially became 1–2. The match continued for a little longer, with around six minutes of stoppage time, if I remember correctly.

The score remained 1–2. Porto won, my bet came through, and I collected my winnings!

But here’s what I really want you to understand.

Even though I had placed a bet on just one match, and even though I was watching Porto play live and could see how much pressure they were putting on their opponents, the bet was still risky.

I watched the game closely. I saw Porto pushing forward and doing everything they could to score. After conceding that first goal, I genuinely expected them to take control of the match and dominate.

But football doesn’t always work out the way you expect.

Porto didn’t score their winning goal until the 84th minute, and even then, it almost got ruled out! If VAR had disallowed that goal, my bet would have lost. And remember, there was only ONE selection on my betting slip!

Now imagine what happens when you have several matches on the same slip. Every additional selection creates another opportunity for something to go wrong.

I was lucky this time, and I don’t deny that. That’s exactly why I’ve shared this example with you. Even when you follow a match closely, study the statistics, and feel confident about what you’re watching, there is still no guarantee that your bet will win.

Personally, when I place bets, I generally stick to a maximum of four or five selections. I try not to go beyond that.

We’ve reached the end of this blog! If you choose to bet on sports, only gamble with money you can afford to lose.

Try to keep the number of selections on your betting slip as low as possible. This can reduce the number of things that need to go your way for your bet to win. But remember, there are no guarantees! You will never have a guaranteed win.

Ideally, stick to one, two, or three selections. That’s a sensible limit if you want to keep things simple. If you really want to add more, try not to go beyond five.

Don’t keep dreaming about odds of 50.00, 100.00, or even higher. Bets like these are extremely difficult to win because so many things have to go your way.

You might tell yourself, (It’s only $10. I don’t care if I lose it.) And you’re right $10 might not seem like much. But the reality is that you could easily lose that money. Repeat the same process ten times, and you’ve lost $100 in a month. It could be even more.

Instead of repeatedly placing small bets with little chance of winning, some people prefer to put that same $100 toward fewer bets with just two or three selections, aiming for total odds of around 2.00 to 3.00. Fewer selections mean fewer outcomes need to go your way, although you can still lose the entire stake.

And if you’re lucky enough to win your first bet, you can choose to repeat the same approach. Just remember that a previous win doesn’t make your next bet any safer.

Ultimately, I’d rather focus on a small number of selections than put together a betting slip with eight or more matches and hope everything goes perfectly.

The bottom line is simple: keep your bets small, avoid chasing huge odds, and never confuse a likely outcome with a guaranteed win.

Bet responsibly, and never risk money you need for everyday expenses.
